The 39-year-old is just five tons behind seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry's record of 775.
"I was just focusing on beating Hendry's record but thought 'no, look beyond that'," O'Sullivan said.
He begins his Masters crown defence against Ricky Walden. The event starts on 11 January at Alexandra Palace.
Ronnie O'Sullivan was a guest on BBC One's Saturday Kitchen programme "I have set a target of 1,000 for myself which means I have to play for another three years. You have to find motivations to keep playing," he said on BBC One's Saturday Kitchen programme.
O'Sullivan defeated Judd Trump 10-9 in an epic final last weekend to claim the title and has now won each of the UK, World and Masters titles on five occasions.
His 27th ranking win leaves him one behind Steve Davis and nine behind Hendry in the all-time list.
"The older I get, I am playing better than I have done for the last 20 years," O'Sullivan said.
"I am not a better player than I was, I have just found better consistency so the game is coming easier to me.
"The older you get you are supposed to be slowing down, but I am getting faster."
