The home side were reduced to 10 men after eight minutes, and Celtic took advantage with Virgil van Dijk netting a double either side of a John Guidetti penalty and Anthony Stokes goal.
"In the last 15 I think we sat back a little bit too much," said Deila.
Interview - Celtic manager Ronny Deila"Also it is 4-0 up and we are away. Celtic Park I hope we can go for more."
He added: "When you go one man up it's easier, of course, but also it's hard to break down [the opposition].
"We had a good game today, good discipline in the team. We were very good to win the ball back when we lost it, we kept them under pressure and in the end we score four goals and win comfortably.
"We practise a lot on the attacking play. We need more penetrating runs to open up more space for each other.
"In the end it's about winning and of course I am happy we had a good game."
Deila is just a couple of days short of six months in the Parkhead hot-seat, and after clocking up his seventh domestic win in a row he feels he has now settled into the job after a rocky start.
Hearts players were aggrieved at the decision to award an early second half penalty.
He told BBC Scotland: "I think it has been a fantastic journey so far, and I'm looking forward to more months and hopefully years.
"We are improving all the time, I'm settling in more and more and enjoying the job."
Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson disagreed with the penalty award when Guidetti was judged to have been felled by Brad McKay, which led to Celtic's second goal.
"We've worked hard all season and I don't want one person's performance to overshadow the hard work we've done here," said Neilson.
Interview - Heart of Midlothian boss Robbie Neilson"We'll use this as motivation for the rest of the season to make sure it doesn't happen to us again.
"There's only one person who thought it was a penalty and it totally changed the game for us.
"It happens, but I would like to think the referee has something about him and maybe gives me a wee phone and explains it to me, because I'm sure he'll watch it and I'm sure he'll realise what the decision should have been.
"Events like today and decisions that went against us will only unite us more and give us more motivation to come back tomorrow and work hard, and ensure this does not have a bearing on our season."
