The PokerStars VIP Club headed to Stockholm last weekend for their latest stop in their global series of VIP Club Live parties. These events, open to players of all VIP Statuses if you have enough FPPs, come with the usual VIP Club Live accoutrements: food, an open bar, entertainment, and the opportunity to mingle with staff and Team PokerStars members. The insane FPP value aside (a ticket for you AND a guest is an affordable 1,500 FPPs if you're a SilverStar), the parties present a rare opportunity for online players to get together and meet outside the virtual felt. Given Stockholm's reputation for its fast-paced nightlife and beautiful residents, we were particularly excited to hold one in the Swedish capital.
Held at Sturecompagniet, one of Stockholm's most revered and exclusive venues, the evening kicked off with women devouring flaming torches, contortionists, sword swallowers, stilt walkers, and a myriad of artists lined up to dazzle the attending VIPs.
New to VIP Club Live this time around was the inaugural Team Online Battle with members Alex 'Kanu7' Millar, Katerina 'Katerina289' Malasidou, and Luka 'LukaSteel' Kovac. With $15k cash plus prizes up for grabs and just shy of 12,000 players
taking part online in selecting who they thought would prevail in tests of wit, agility, and speed, there was a palpable excitement in the crowd to see who would take the trophy.
Team PokerStars Online's Katerina289 felt confident going into the inaugural Team Online Battle
The Team Online Battle played out with Katerina taking the early lead, outwitting Alex and Luka in Swedish Trivia heading into the next stage of juggling. To their surprise, the competition involved more than simple juggling three balls, but several different tricks the juggler on hand challenged them with.
"What am I supposed to do with this?"wonders Luka 'LukaSteel' Kovac.
Kanu7 ended up taking down the juggling with a clutch performance to the dismay of the crowd, who were firm
ly rooted in Katerina's corner throughout the night.
Heading into the final slotcar racing stage with everything still up for grabs, Katerina held poll position and the advantage, with Alex and Luka starting several seconds behind her due to their weaker preliminary performances. But it all went wrong for Katerina when her car went flying off the track when she took a corner with too much speed. With Katerina out of the way, it was all Kanu7 as he took down the 10 lap race on his way to claiming the first ever Team Online Battle trophy.
Alex 'Kanu7' Millar got the win in the Team Online Battle.
VIPs in attendance also took part in voting and those who correctly voted for Alex participated in their
own racing showdown with a variety of prizes at stake, and a new PlayStation 4 going to the winner.
With the Team Online Battle out of the way, it was time to properly celebrate, victors and vanquished alike, at the after-party downstairs at Hell's Kitchen. Awaiting partygoers was another exclusive open bar, a photo booth to commemorate the evening, and a decadent chocolate fountain.
From that point on, the more dance-savvy (and not so savvy) VIPs hit the dance floor until the early hours of the morning. Pictures from the evening can be found here. Needless to say, we're looking forward to the summer months where VIP Club Live will be in full swing. Next stop is in Lisbon on June 7th, followed by stops in Montreal, Hamburg, the Isle of Man, and São Paulo. You can nab your ticket in the PokerStars VIP Store.
The Team Online Battle all-in shootout will run Saturday in the PokerStars client.
