The St Mirren player/coach has been issued with a notice of complaint by the Scottish Football Association's compliance officer Tony McGlennan.

Goodwin has been charged with "violent conduct" after he appeared to lash out at United midfielder Connolly towards the end of St Mirren’s 3-0 Scottish Premiership defeat at Tannadice.

The pair were chasing the ball as it ran towards the touchline when the incident occurred, but referee Andrew Dallas did not spot the incident.

Goodwin has until Wednesday to respond to the charge, with a principal hearing set for the following day.

This is not the first time Goodwin has fallen foul of Hampden disciplinary chiefs following a run-in with United.

Last December, he was banned for two matches after elbowing Tangerines midfielder Stuart Armstrong during a clash at St Mirren Park.

In December 2011, he accepted another two-match ban for throwing a punch at Motherwell's Steve Jennings during a league match at Fir Park.
